The 100-acre Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary is one of the last remaining sites where the bald cypress tree occurs naturally in the state of Maryland. The sanctuary offers visitors the chance to view these prehistoric trees, and to enjoy bird watching, wild flower identification, and nature walks in the rich and varied vegetation of the swamp. In addition to a self-guided 1,700-foot boardwalk trail through the cypress swamp, there is an upland trail and a staffed nature center that offers educational exhibits and programs.
